Membrane Technology

altOur experienced in-house design team, together with the long term support of our established membrane suppliers ensures that water purity exceeds the most stringent standards.

The membrane bioreactor treatment produces a high quality disinfected effluent.

The process requires no primary or secondary settlement stages and no additional tertiary treatment or UV stages to achieve disinfection suitable for many applications.

Raw sewage only requires screening and de-gritting prior to entering the membrane bioreactor tank and subsequent discharge. 

Potable water

The increasing requirement to provide barriers to pathogens and other contaminants of concern in water treatment, to minimise public health risks, has brought about increased use of membrane technologies.

Aquatec Maxcon has provided a high recovery three stage reverse osmosis system at Avoca which is fully containerised and able to operate on high silica levels for drinking water in the township. We have also provided five (5) micro-filtration plants at Goulburn Valley Water to upgrade the drinking water quality that minimised the risk of giardia and crypotosporidium.

Industrial Process Water

Our membrane experience for industrial feedwater includes a large number of reverse osmosis projects for treatment of wastewater from breweries, the food industry and for pulp and paper.

The Castlemaine Brewery Recycling Project in Milton, Brisbane includes a reverse osmosis plant built by Aquatec Maxcon. It is a three stage system and uses microfiltration as pretreatment.

Coal Seam Gas (CSG) Process Water

We have built a number of gas installations and water containerised treatment plants for Shell and Origin Energy in the Coal Seam Gas market. We provided a power generation solution to supply the remote power requirements of the membrane treatment plant.

An integrated UF-RO system in Moranbah provides water at 2 ML/d for irrigation use.

Wastewater Reuse and Sewage Treatment

The ever increasing pressure on existing fresh water resources results in a need to maximise the usage of wastewater.

Our experienced team was responsible for the design and installation of the MF/RO plant at Wynum STP, which delivered Class A water up to 5 ML/d for Brisbane City Council.

As the cost of water increases, water mining is becoming more feasible. We have designed and supplied installations where   sewage is treated by incorporating submerged membranes.

MBR's have been used successfully in combination with UV to produce a Class A effluent in water mining trials.

Our Trojan UV system has been accredited with Class A as part of the Werribee and Eastern Treatment Recycle Water Scheme for Melbourne Water.  This system is recognised for its additional pathogen removal of giardia and crytosporidium.

This installation is accredited by DHS and entails our Kubota Membrane Bioreactor and ultraviolet technology.

Pressure Membranes

Aquatec Maxcon offers fully integrated systems using either microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF) or reverse osmosis (RO).

Our designs incorporate hollow fibre MF or UF membranes, supplied in modular skids which allow for easy staging as capacity increases.

Immersed Membranes

We design and supply immersed membranes for existing wastewater plants or new facilities. We are the leading MBR provider in the Australasian region with an unmatched and proven performance status. Aquatec Maxcon has over 25 membrane installations in Australia and New Zealand.

We designed and constructed the first commercial scale MBR in Australasia for Townsville CitiWater at Picnic Bay, Magnetic Island. The project received an Engineering Excellence Award in 2003, demonstrating its state of the art technology and capability.

Pilot Plant Capability

Aquatec Maxcon has modern membrane pilot plants that are fully transportable and can be readily located at sites for pilot trials. The plants are equipped with the latest communication and process control equipment for remote monitoring.

Services include treatability studies, chemical dosing optimisation, and development of plant operating requirements.
