Aquatec Maxcon provided a design & construct solution for the Mt Beauty Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project.

The Mt Beauty, Tawonga and Tawonga South reticulation system had experienced a number of Escherichia coli (E. coli) detections over the preceding 5 years. In response to potential future E.coli contamination events, North East Water decided to upgrade Mt Beauty WTP to a DAFF process with residual disinfectant.

The scope of the project involved the decommissioning and removal of the existing Mt Beauty WTP and the construction of a new in-filter dissolved air flotation filtration (DAFF) WTP. The plant delivers 2.7 ML/d of treated water. A temporary water treatment system was installed by Aquatec Maxcon for water treatment during the period where neither the existing WTP nor the upgraded WTP had the capacity to provide treated water.

The Aquatec Maxcon DAFF process offers an efficient and economic solution for treatment of low to moderately turbid raw waters to ADWG standards. The process is ideally suited to source waters with significant algal cell content, which would otherwise be difficult to settle by traditional sedimentation equipment. This is ultimately reflected in plant performance achieved and surety of target water quality parameters being met.
